INTRODUCTION

WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD to present Art of Living, a collection of paintings, sculpture and graphics by some of the greatest names in art history.

Throughout September and October, we will be turning Harrods into one of the world’s largest art galleries, offering you the opportunity to view and to buy work from artists ranging from Rembrand to Rolf Harris.

Most of the 72 windows of Harrods, as well as 35 specific sites within the store, will be dedicated to the display of art, whether an original oil by Monet, a rare silkscreen by Warhol, or a pencil drawing by Lowry.

We will also be showcasing an extraordinarily diverse collection of work by some of the country’s up-and-coming talents, as well as bringing you art by today’s best-loved artists, such as Mackenzie Thorpe and Lorenzo Quinn.

In addition to being able to view and to buy art from Harrods, we’d also like to invite you to join us for an exciting programme of artist appearances and events, where you can meet many of the painters and sculptors who are making a name for themselves in the art world.

So whether you’re an experienced art collector, whether you’re looking to buy your first piece, or even just seeking artistic inspiration, we look forward to welcoming you to Harrods this Autumm and changing your perspective of art.

JOSEP E. BALAGUER (P. 48-49)

Having trained as an ilustrator, producing drawings for cultural magazines such as Quadern and Quacomic, Spanish artist Josep Enric Balaguer staged his exhibition of paintings at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sabadell. Since then, he has taken part in over 30 group exhibitions as well as 15 major one-man shows and his work is displayed in private collections and museums across his home country. He takes inspiration from the natural order which exists in the apparent disorder of things, commenting “I observe with great attention how an untidy grouping of objects can form a composition of great harmony and beauty. The mystery of light - where it shines, where it creates shadows and reflections - also plays a major atmospheric role.”
